Does Swearing Help Get Your Point Across Effectively? Is What You’re Saying Biased?

These little girls used swearing to get a feminist message across.

Did it work? Was this effective?

Well, did it? Sure, they said their point, sexism is wrong and we need more rights and appreciation for women, and that’s great and all. However, their swearing actually hurt their message by having such a distracting foundation. It muffled down their core message, by distracting us from their points and saying f*** in every other sentence. Then when you finally blocked out the swear words, you finally got to some interesting facts that were overgeneralized or implied something that wasn’t necessarily true.

So, they had their statistics and they did have some central points that were prominent in the video:

“Women are paid 23% less than men for the exact same f*****g work.”

While this can be true, they forgot to factor in a lot of circumstances where women would get paid more for the same work. E.g. the woman could have more work experience in the same work make more money than the man who has less experience. My mother makes more than my papa. She has a higher base-line salary and her benefits pay more. They both have the same title, they just work at different companies. They also didn’t take into account that women get maternity leave (something that men don’t get to have) and other benefits that can boost their pay salary. They also overgeneralized and used the most extreme example for their education relating to their pay. If you got Cs in college and someone who got As in college applied for the same work, the person with the As would get the job. It doesn’t matter what their gender is!

“Here’s a hot tip: Stop telling girls how to dress and start teaching boys not to f*****g rape!”

Hey! Remember another hot tip: Not all boys rape! By saying that we should stop teaching boys how to rape, you are implying that boys are built in with a sort of biological “rape button”. Another interesting thing this video doesn’t mention is that boys get raped by boys, boys get raped by girls, and girls get raped by other girls! That’s right, girls can rape, too! Again, they are using stereotypes for men that they want to use to combat stereotypes for women!

After these two points, they breach the subject of how the media portrays women and judges them by their bodies instead of their personalities and character. Although this is unfortunately true in a lot of cases, there are other people who get labeled and stereotyped by their bodies, men. That’s right ladies, men go through that as well. They’re expected to look like Leonidas from Sparta or as skinny as a switch. They have to look “handsome” or they won’t get any girl to even glance their way! It’s such a shame!

“Umm, instead of cleaning these girls’ mouths out with soap, maybe society should clean up it’s act!”

Yes, our society needs to clean up its act. You, however, are not helping by instilling the idea that to get your point across, you have to scream profanities! I honestly wonder if the girls really know what messages they are sending to the audience… It’s not necessary and was just used to appear “righteous” in a rebellious way.

“Yo, bro! When you tell a boy it’s bad to ‘act like a girl’, it’s because you think it’s bad to be a girl.”

No, everyone portrays women as weak, so there is that correlation between the two. They’re saying to not be weak (like the damsel in distress)! They are not saying to not be a girl but to not act like a girl!

This video poorly executed the feminist message; I bet Susan B. Anthony is turning over in her grave! If they had been more concerned about the feminist values and less about the shock value, this video wouldn’t have been such a great example on what not to do.
